What to Wear?
When shooting a maternity photoshoot, the mama-to-be's wardrobe should enhance her figure and show off her growing tummy. Whether it's a simple piece of fabric or a glamorous robe, her costume should always leave her feeling beautiful and empowered. Here are five of our favorite looks from a couple of previous sessions.
A Silky Piece Of Fabric
This looks can be a little tricky, but the overall effect is so gorgeous and so dramatic. A silky piece of fabric (we used green here) is secured behind Mom's back with sturdy clamps to create an overall effect of it being skin-tight. This also allows mom's belly to show clearly- just the way we like it! Often, a powerful fan is turned on in the direction of mom's face allowing her hair to flow back naturally, and the photographer directs mom on how to get into the proper pose. The final step often requires several tries until the perfect shot is captured. Mom's partner or a studio assistant holds the edges of the fabric out of the camera's range and tosses it in the air exactly as the photographer snaps the photo. If done correctly, the fabric creates an illusion of fluttering on its own, like in this picture-perfect portrait of Joelle.
A Big Floofy RObe
Can you believe that all of that is one robe? This robe is truly dreamy. It's so lovely and ultra-feminine, and at this angle, Maria looks like she's enveloped in a pink cloud. Post-production edits are added to give it an even softer look, but the robe speaks for itself with its endless ruffles and floofiness for days. Tied right at the waist allows mom's belly to pop beautifully!
A Sexy Body Suit
Va-va-voom! This look hugs every curve and is so so sexy. Our selection of velvet bodysuits comes in several different colors, but this red look is a real stand-out! The corset tie in the back ensures a snug, but universal fit for all mamas-to-be. The dramatic, dark background makes Joelle look like she stepped directly out of a magazine.
Something White
A simple white flowy dress is universally flattering and provides that soft, feminine look that is so essential to maternity shoots. Whether it has lace, pearls, or is truly just plain white, there's something about the effect it gives that is so incredibly lovely. Here, Maria's belly is partially obscured, but the fit of the lingerie really showcases her beautiful round tummy.
Nothing At All!
This sort of portrait requires quite a bit of bravery. Although everybody is beautiful, this look may not be for everyone, as many are not comfortable being photographed completely nude. Joelle, however, was a natural in front of the camera and had confidence in spades. And there's no easier way to show off a beautiful expecting tummy!
